Calgary, Alberta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Hon. Len Webber, ECA, MP (Calgary Confederation) made the following announcement ahead of an anticipated federal election call this weekend.

“It has been an honour to be the elected Member of Parliament for Calgary Confederation since 2015, but the time has come to pass the torch. I want to thank deeply my constituents for their ongoing support and encouragement. This was not an easy decision, but one that I have come to after long and thoughtful consideration,” said Webber.

“After serving our community for over 20 years in both the Alberta Legislature and the House of Commons, it is time for me to find other ways to serve my community and provide the opportunity for someone else to represent Calgary Confederation in Ottawa. I am confident that a new Conservative Member of Parliament in Calgary Confederation will be a great addition to a new Pierre Poilievre government in the House of Commons. I will be doing what I can to make that happen,” added Webber.

“Finally, I would like to thank my staff and acknowledge their fine work. Over the years, their support, advice, and loyalty have been incredible,” stated Webber.

Len Webber was first elected Member of Parliament in October 2015 and re-elected in 2019 and 2021 for the federal riding of Calgary Confederation. He is the elected Chair of the Alberta Conservative Caucus.

His signature initiative was the unanimous passage of legislation that allows Canadians to indicate their intention to become a registered organ and tissue donor through their annual tax form. As a result, millions of Canadians have used this convenient option to say they want to ‘give the gift of life’. This work built on his earlier efforts in the Alberta Legislature which saw the creation of the Alberta Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

Before his election to the House of Commons, Webber was elected three times as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Foothills. In his time as an MLA, he served as Minister of Aboriginal Relations, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations, Deputy Government Whip, Parliamentary Assistant for Energy, as well as sitting on multiple boards and committees.

Webber, with his late wife Heather, has three daughters: Lauren, Jaime and Kelly … and three granddaughters: Sloane, Isla and Cameron.
